Planning to by either JD 4600 or Kub. L4310. With HST and loader. Would like opinions from folks who have used both. Good local dealers for both. Prices about the same.

i bought the 4310 gst about 4 months ago. couldnt be happier. the jd appeared to be a nice machine. but....it is a new model with new manufacturer and i was afraid of the bugs inherent in new models. it will be a great machine also . i am not that color blind. the 4310 is great, plenty of power and moves about great. the jd has shift on the fly and i noticed the lift arms are much beefier. also the hydr. flow rates are much higher on the jd. easy choice huh?? ....

DJ, I bought a L4310 HST 4WD and LA681 loader combo about 3 weeks ago. Great experience with the machine so far at ~25hrs. Not a single problem. For loader work deffinitly get the HST/4WD combo. I have tried it in both 2WD and 4WD. The 4WD seems smoother when pushing into the pile. I have moved ~300 yards of dirt and mucked out a couple of ponds so far. The reasons I bought Kubota verse JD was the recomendation of a local contractor, local dealer recomendation (he sells and stocks both), and I did not want to by the early production on the new JD line. That said, the choice was not obvious. The 4600 has seems to be specd a little higher. ....

Greg, I lost something, if you have higher hydr.flow and beefier arms what happened to the increases at the user end? The three point hitch on the deere lifts less than the kubota not that either will lift enough to hurt them and the loader lifts less and does it sloweron the deere. Well from here I guess it gets into efficiency. Why drive these bigger pumps that take horsepower away if you don't or can't use it! ....

I had the same dilemna 3 mo's ago, JD4500 vs L3710. The JD is hundreds of pounds heavier with higher hydo capacity. Also more $. JD also had a 180 day delay from order to deliver. Kubota was delivered in 5 days. I've put 50 hours on the machine and am very happy. Hydro drive, loaded R4 industrial tires, 72" loader with an 8" carbide cutting bar, 78" blower, 72" drag box and 72" bush hog cutter. Total bill - less than $25K. Why buy the L4310 when you can have the same tractor minus 5 hp for 3K less? Same capacities, same frame, etc. I've not missed the 5 HP. ....

Got a 4600 w/460 loader, 48 backhoe, PowerReverser transmission. I love it. Not one problem in seventy plus hours. Clearing a woodlot, putting in a septic system, foundation for home and barn, stumping, dragging, digging, you name this tractor can do it. Power is UNBELIEVABLE. PowerReverser works great w/loader work. Kubota was nice, a little smaller and was worried about parts both pricing and availablity. Got the JD after a forty-eight hour wait (surprising what waiving 30k under the nose of dealer will do). My guess is that no matter what you get you are going to be very happy. These are both the compact flagships of their respective companies and they are both great machines. FYI the PowerReverser is fantastic, would not even consider changing to a HST even at the same price. Like the interactivity of pulling and pushing that POWER lever. Weird at first cause you don't use the clutch. Was told here on the board when I was looking not to be afraid to step up one size in tractor, boy am I glad I did. The other compacts look like toys next to this bad boy. Can you tell I'm happy?? I love the smell of the exhaust, wish it was pointing at me instead of away (maybe I've been huffing it too long?). Good luck in your search...rob ....
